Teaching

My Philosophy:  Teaching 5 year old kids is very different than teaching a 50 year old.  Teaching a scratch golfer is very different than teaching a 20 handicapper.  Finally, teaching men and women can also be very different.  Each golfer is unique.  They require individual attention and not a canned approach.  Try relating golf to another sport or another part of that student's life.  Relating golf to tennis for a former tennis player, for example, will result in the student being more likely to understand the motion because it is something with which they are familiar.  Customizing your approach to each individual student.

Influences/Approach:  My favorite two golf books in the world are Ben Hogan's Five Fundamentals of Golf and Harvey Penick's Little Red Book.  Part of me believes you could teach a person how to play golf by just reading those two books.  Obviously, a lot more goes into teaching good golf.  I have studied top teaching professionals, learned from their methods and observed their approaches.  My own approach uses video feedback, 4 or 5 of my favorite drills and a few key training aids.  Students of all ages and abilities leave with a better understanding of the swing without being totally confused by technical terms.
